4D projection mapping is one of the most incredible display technologies for ambient ads and guerrilla marketing used today. We hand-picked 7 incredible and jaw-dropping examples for you!

Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality, is a projection technology used to turn objects, sometimes buildings, into a display surface for video projection. Advertisers use Video Mapping to add extra dimensions, optical illusions, and the impression of movement onto static objects. Usually, the video is combined with audio to create an impressive audio-visual narrative.

7- The Official Ralph Lauren 4D Experience – London

In celebration of 10 years of digital innovation, RalphLauren.com presents the ultimate fusion of art, fashion & technology in a visual feast for the 5 senses. Watch as the London flagship at 1 New Bond Street disappears before your eyes and is then transformed into a series of objects and images rendered in 3-dimensional space.

Ralph Lauren celebrates 10 years of digital innovation with Ralph Lauren 4D Projection Mapping Show. A historic fusion of art, fashion & technology at the 888 Madison Ave store in NYC.

Here is what Ralph Lauren said to Business of Fashion Magazine on an exclusive interterview

“We discovered a new technology up in Amsterdam called digital mapping and we decided to take this to America and blow it out of the water, on a scale not seen before. The Guggenheim just did light projections on their building, but they’re not 3-D. This is like Avatar but without the glasses.

People can say: well, what does that have to do with Ralph Lauren? But just like fashion is cutting edge, it’s about knowing the next trends and getting ahead of those trends. We weren’t satisfied with a single spread in a magazine. That doesn’t mean anything to us. We want to be on the cutting-edge. The same way we saw QR code technology and brought it to America, we saw this new technology and thought: what could we do to take it to the next level?

We’d built this beautiful new store on Madison Avenue, it’s a pretty significant store, a Beaux-Arts mansion. And we wanted to bring it to life in very cool way. We’re calling it the collision of fashion, technology, art, commerce and architecture. That contrast of old world sensibility with modern technology is what we’re after.”

these are great and so amazing!! 4d projection is the biggest game changer in all of today’s advertising. it still costs a decent amount of money to do but it goes much further than any print ad that’s for sure.
if you search google for “4d projection” you will be able to see more.
    thanks for sharing this 🙂

Thank you for your comment!! Truly appreciated. I wouldn’t go as far as comparing 4d projection with a print ad. They serve different functions but 4d projection is a great resource for guerrilla tactics and some product launches. Which ones have you created?
      Warmly,

I think 4D projection is truly a relevant marketing strategy for 2016 specially since it focuses on creating an experience to the desired audience. I know this article was written in 2014 but it surely has become more and more popular. I think its important to notice that its not just about creating an experience but also about documenting it and giving your client the best sharing material they could ever get their hands on ! Its impressive to see it in real life but its also impressive to see a great video made out of it.

I would add that stereoscopic 4d projection mapping which uses 3d glasses has also increased the 4D experience to a new level like in this example: http:// madnull.com/portfolio/stereoscopic-4d-projection-mapping-surround-epura I truly liked the article and thank you for sharing it !

Thank you, Diego, for your comment. You are correct, experiential marketing and its executions are as valid today as they were several years ago. A company that does a terrific job of it and where experiential is totally aligned with its brand, is RedBull. Coca Cola does a terrific job of it as well. I see it mostly out of the U.S. but their ideas (not necessarily 4D mapping) are fantastic.
